Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

The Whitehorse Community Choir is the largest mixed chorus north of the 60th Parallel in Canada. Located in Whitehorse, a small city of 23,000 on the Alaska Highway in the beautiful and remote Yukon, the choir's enrolment averages 100 members.

The WCC performs a broad range of repertoire, from classical music to folksongs to spirituals. The choir's Musical Director is Barbara Chamberlin and the accompanist is Barry Kitchen. The organization also has two chamber choirs, the Persephone Singers and the Neptunes.

The WCC normally prepares two major concerts per season - one at Christmas and one in the spring. We also take our shows "on the road" each year to one or more communities in Yukon or northern B.C. Our most recent concert was "Amazing Grace," performed over two nights at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse in May 2007.

Previous presentations and projects of the choir include Handel's "Messiah," "Carmina Burana" and "Voices of the Klondike," a Gold Rush centenary project recognized by the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors as Canada's Outstanding Choral Event of 1998/1999. The choir was proud to participate in the opening ceremonies of the 2007 Canada Winter Games by singing our national anthem.
