For WCC Members
A warm welcome to new and returning choir members. The following information may be helpful in answering some of your questions.
The Season
The season is divided into a fall term which runs from the second Monday in September until mid-December, and a spring term which runs from the second Monday in January until early May. A second registration is held in early January for the spring term.
Rehearsal Times
WCC rehearsals start promptly at 7:15 p.m. Please ensure you arrive a few minutes early to get settled. Rehearsal ends at 9:15 p.m.
Membership Fees
The membership fee for one person is $75.00 per term. For those in financial need, bursaries are available. Membership fees help to cover some of our expenses, such as rental of rehearsal and performance space, sheet music, and accompanist fees.
WCC Registration Cut-off
The deadline for signing up is the third rehearsal of each term. All fees must be paid by this date. The conductor may request a brief meeting with all new members to determine vocal placement. After the registration deadline, the conductor reserves the right to accept new members by audition only.
Rehearsal Attendance Policy
Choir members are required to attend rehearsals regularly. You will be given a rehearsal schedule at the beginning of the term. If you miss more than three rehearsals, or know that you will be away for more than three, you must meet with the director to discuss your absences. An audition will be required for re-entry.
Performance Attendance Policy
When joining this choir for the fall term, you commit to performing in the December concert. Participation in other performances is optional, but strongly encouraged. When joining the choir for the spring term, you commit to performing in the Rotary Music Festival in the third week of April and the spring concert in the first week of May. To perform at each of these concerts, you must attend the dress rehearsal.
Performance Dress Code
Unless otherwise stated, choir members are required to wear black, long-sleeved shirts or blouses and black pants or skirts. Women wear the choir scarf, men wear the choir tie. Black socks or stockings and polished black shoes are required. Perfume and aftershave may not be worn to rehearsals or performances.
Music Policy
The music librarian will ensure each paid member has a full set of music. There may be some delay in getting a full set, so please be patient and ask your neighbour to share with you. All music belongs to the choir and is on loan to you. Please take care of it and return it at the end of the term. Do not use pen or highlighter on any music. Notations in pencil are fine. Black music folders will be available for sale at approximately $30. There are some folders available for loan for performances.
Music Deposit
You have been asked to provide a post-dated cheque for $25.00. This cheque will be destroyed (or returned to you upon request) at the end or the spring term if all music is returned in good condition. Otherwise, the cheque will be cashed in order to cover restocking costs.
Board of Directors
By joining the W.C.C. you become a voting member of the Community Choir of Whitehorse Society. The society's business is carried out by a volunteer Board of Directors.
