Village Council is pleased to announce the following appointments:
- Deputy Mayor: George Nassiopoulos
- Convention Centre Technical Committee: Terry Madley & John Farynowski

Village Council is pleased to award the following Rec Grants:
- Aerobics: $200 for step benches
- Champagne & Aishihik First Nations: $500 for power poles for their
skating rink.
- Minor Hockey: $6,865 for ice time


TOURISM & CONVENTION CENTRE UPDATE
Ketza Construction and the subcontractors have now substantially completed
the building and are now taking care of minor deficiencies.
- The retractable seating for 240 people is being installed.
- The lighting and sound system for the Grand Hall will be installed in
late December.
- Johnson Contracting is currently building the Village Offices, Council
Chambers and EMO Office on the second floor, with an planned completion
date of January 31.
The Community Hall is set to close January 2.
If you or your group would like a tour of the Centre during the day, evenings
or weekends, please contact Mark Ritchie at the Village Office at 634-2293.

ARCTIC WINTER GAMES
The Village Office has the complete listing of all the trials for the Arctic
Winter Games next March in Yellowknife.

EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM funding for the summer of 1998. Subsidies of up to $5.75

HERE ARE THE BUILDING STATISTICS ISSUED SO FAR THIS YEAR IN HAINES JUNCTION:

THE GERMANS ARE COMING! THE GERMANS ARE COMING!
Thanks to the efforts of TOURISM YUKON, the charter company AIR
TRANSAT will begin direct, weekly air service next summer between Frankfurt,
Germany and Whitehorse. The service will run May 19 to September 15. The
Village office has a list of twenty-one European travel agents who are looking
for tourist packages to offer along with this service.
B&B's in the HJ YP's?
We often get calls at the Village Office asking if there are any Bed &
Breakfasts in Haines Junction, because none are listed in the Yellow Pages.
If you would like to drum up more business for your B&B, consider listing
it in the next issue of the phone book!

The Frostbite Music Society is
inviting all Yukon musicians interested in playing at
Frostbite on Friday-Sunday, February 13-15 to call the Frostbite Office
at 634-4921.
