CONVENTION CENTRE FEES & SMOKING
Village Council will be reviewing the public input on the proposed fees
and smoking policy for the new Tourism & Convention Centre at their
next meeting on Wednesday, May 28 at 7 pm. Please check the agenda posted
around town and the notice board on Madley's for the location. Although
the original deadline for written comments was Thursday, May 22, this has
been extended to 3 pm Monday, May 26. If you wish to be a delegation at
the Council meeting, please contact the Village Office by 12 noon, Friday,
May 23 at 634-2291.

another great AGM in Watson Lake! Motions passed at the TIA conference concerned
the development of a Yukon Wilderness Tourism Management Strategy, roadside
pullouts, WCB assessments and power rates. Details on these motions are
available at the Village Office.
If anyone is traveling through Watson Lake this summer, be sure to stop
and visit the NORTHERN LIGHTS CENTRE - their new Electric Sky theatre and
planetarium!

The Business Development Bank, the Chartered Banks, Dana Naye Ventures
and the Department of Economic Development have joined forces to guarantee
venture loans to small and medium sized businesses. The size of the loans

TOURISM & CONVENTION CENTRE UPDATE
- We have completed a draft of the Marketing Plan for the Centre. If you
would like to review a copy of this plan, please contact the Village Office.
- Ketza Construction is currently doing the wall framing and steel work
for the first and second floor. The roof trusses, sheathing and shingles;
the fascia, soffit and atrium framing are planned for June.
- School will be out soon, so parents are asked to ensure their children
stay away from the site. The piles of materials and the building itself
can be hazardous.
BLOCK 6 DEVELOPMENT
Tana Contracting of Haines Junction was the successful bidder on this project.
Construction should begin soon.
CPR COMMITTEE NEWS
The next meeting of the CPR Committee is set for 7 pm Thursday, June 26.

The JUNCTION FUNCTION FUNDING FOUNDATION is pleased to
award Minor Hockey a grant of $100 for cleaning up the Pine Lake Trail.
BUILDING PERMITS
Please note that building permit applications require a minimum of seven
working days for the Village to process the application before a permit
is issued by YTG. If you have questions, please contact the Village Office
at 634-2291.
ARENA REPORT
The Bill Brewster Arena is available for tennis for $20 per hour. Call the
Village Office today to reserve your time: 634-2293.
Congratulations to all the winners at the Minor Hockey Awards Banquet last
month. The Village will be proudly sponsoring the BILL BREWSTER COACH OF
THE YEAR AWARD next winter, which hopefully be one of the most sought after
awards!
The final numbers are in for the very successful 1996/97 season at the arena.
Here is how the arena with artificial ice turned out compared to the previous
winter with natural ice:

Congratulations to Chris Eikland for placing second in the Senior
Men's category in the Chadburn Lake Mountain Bike Race on May 7.
THE GREEN SCENE
Clean bathroom mirrors and windows with a mixture of five parts
water to one part vinegar. For a buildup of mold, spray with undiluted vinegar,
wait half an hour and scrub with a brush and water.
TRAIL OF '98, HERE WE COME!
The earlybirds get the best legs! The registration forms are out for the
1997 Skagway to Whitehorse Klondike Road Relay on September 12 & 13.

here in Haines Junction. We have secured some funding from the Yukon Canada
Day Committee, so now all we need is a community group to spearhead the
