Commencing in March 1998, the Mayor and Council for the Village of Haines Junction will provide a monthly news sheet to inform residents and to solicit feedback on current topics and planned actions involving the municipality.


The Tourism & Convention Centre is temporarily closed to accommodate adjustments to the fire suppression system. Full occupancy should be available soon!

CUSTODIAL CONTRACT
The Village of Haines Junction wishes to establish a contract with a local business to provide custodial services for the recreation facilities and the Village Offices beginning March 16, 1998. The deadline to bid is 1:30 pm, Monday, March 9. Bid packages are available at the Village Office.

CPR COMMITTEE NEWS
Welcome to Marion Primozic - the newest member of the CPR Committee. The next meeting of the CPR Committee is set for 7 pm Thursday, April 2. If you would like to be put on the agenda, please contact Mark Ritchie by 12 noon, Monday, March 30.

CONGRATULATIONS
to our Atom, Novice and Midget Hockey Players for fine showings in the Yukon Championships!

The last day of public skating is set for FRIDAY, MARCH 27
. The arena will be closed as of MONDAY, MARCH 30. Please see the planned schedule at the end of the TREDMill.

OH, CANADA, EH?
Canada Day may not happen this year in Haines Junction unless some community group spearheads organizing it. The deadline to apply for funding is April 15 and the application form is at the Village Office.

SPRING TRAVEL SHOWS
Your editor plans to represent Haines Junction and the rest of the Yukon at the International Adventure Travel Show in Vancouver on March 20-22 and the Tourism Industry Association's AGM in Dawson in late April. Please bring your business's brochures and photo albums to the Village Office by Wednesday, March 18 to be displayed in our booth.

TOURISM TRAINING
Do you or your fellow business owners need training for your staff, but can't quite afford it? The Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon offers the TOURISM TRAINING TRUST FUND as a solution. The Fund allows businesses and individuals working in the tourism industry to access financial assistance for training costs. Mark Ritchie has more information, or contact TIA at 668-3331.

KLUANE PARK NEWS

THE CRIME SCENE
CONGRATULATIONS to the whole community of Haines Junction for receiving the Community Crime Prevention Worker Award. Crime Prevention Yukon presented this award to the community in early February. Thanks to Cpl. Larry Kavanagh for nominating the whole community!

CRIME STOPPERS is now in Haines Junction! Crime Stoppers is a community based program that combines the police, media and public in solving crime in Yukon communities. Watch the ECHO each month for a "Crime of the Month" to be posted. If you have a tip on this crime or any other criminal activity, call CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

CULTURE CORNER
Are you an artist? Have you ever wanted to visit Inuvik? Well, here's your chance! The GREAT NORTHERN ARTS FESTIVAL on July 17-26 in Inuvik is now accepting applications from artists. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 16. The Village Office has application forms.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

FRIDAY, MAY 15 is the next deadline to apply for COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUND grants for funding requests less than $20,000. Please contact the Village Office for application forms. We even have the application form on computer disk!
