The Yukon Territory's first official license plate was issued in 1924. Unofficial plates of a homemade variety were issued from 1917 to 1923. They had black numbers on a white background with the initials "YT" on the right side and the year under the initials. The size was 5" x 7" until 1920 and 5" x 8 " from 1921-1923. 1952 White on Sky Blue (First plate issued with the symbol of the strip. Gold miner on the left side and the slogan "Land of the Midnight Sun" on the top strip. This was also the first plate to have "Canada" on the bottom under "Yukon YT".)

1990 Multi-Coloured (First plate issued with multi-colour combination: white background; black identification characters consisting of 3 alpha and 2 numeric; the words "The Klondike" on the top portion of the plate and "Yukon" on the bottom are both red; the gold panner on left side is orange, black and yellow; a strip of blue runs across bottom of plate. Validation decal: red background, white year numbers, black identification numbers.)
1991 Multi-Coloured (Validation decal: green background, white year numbers, black identification numbers.)
