The Yukon Territory's first official license plate was issued in 1924. Unofficial plates of a homemade variety were issued from 1917 to 1923. They had black numbers on a white background with the initials "YT" on the right side and the year under the initials. The size was 5" x 7" until 1920 and 5" x 8 " from 1921-1923. 1990 Multi-Coloured (First plate issued with multi-colour combination: white background; black identification characters consisting of 3 alpha and 2 numeric; the words "The Klondike" on the top portion of the plate and "Yukon" on the bottom are both red; the gold panner on left side is orange, black and yellow; a strip of blue runs across bottom of plate. Validation decal: red background, white year numbers, black identification numbers.)
